10 Wardrobe Essentials for Every Woman

It’s out with the old, in with the new, goodbye last season clothes, hello new trends….but wait, what do you invest in? What new trends are worth following and how much does one have to spend on clothes to be considered fashionable? Instead of shopping around for a one-time wear and throw piece, have you considered building a timeless capsule wardrobe and streamlining your closet? A closet built on a streamlined selection of items makes day-to-day dressing infinitely easier AND allows you to mix and match some basic items to dress up or dress down for any occasion (if and when quarantine ends).

Your closet should be a curated collections of some amazing pieces so here are 11 items I think every woman needs in her closet all year round. These, my friends, are the ESSENTIALS.

1. Quality Denim

Denim in the forms of quality jeans and jackets are a MUST. I recommend a variety of washes and styles from light wash to dark wash and then ranging from skinny jeans to mom to boyfriend jeans for your closet. Always own a few pairs of jeans that are distressed and some that are more work appropriate to keep your style ever-changing. Best place to buy jeans? Zara.

2. Classic Blazer

Structured outerwear is one thing you can always count on. The key is to look for a blazer that you can layer with any top, whether it’s a concert tee or a blouse or a bralette. My personal favorite look is taking something casual like biker shorts and a bralette and throwing a blazer and jewelry on top for a classy look. Remember: it’s all about versatility. And investing in pieces that do it all. Best place to buy casual blazers? Missguided.

3. Biker Shorts

This goes hand in hand with the suggestion above, you need at least a few pairs of biker shorts in your closet. I personally love investing in a variety of neutral colors like beige, tan and black. Biker shorts are great for a casual look when paired with a graphic tee or crewneck but can also be great for a dressy look when paired with a bomber or blazer. Best place to buy biker shorts? Amazon. I always make sure to get two different materials – a cotton blend and a compression pair.

4. Designer Belt

OKAY, this one’s a splurge item but I truly believe if you have cash saved up for one fashion item, it should be a designer belt. This belt can change the way your entire outfit looks by adding an oomph. These belts are extremely versatile and can be used with jeans, dresses, skirts and rompers. Best designer belts? Gucci, LV, and Off-White. My next purchase is definitely going to be a YSL one….but I have nowhere to go currently.

5. Snake Skin Print

With the movement towards animal print in the last couple of years – like leopard, zebra, tiger and even crocodile – the snakeskin is a natural evolution. Some of my favorite snakeskin items include a printed skirt, bodysuit, leggings and booties. In general, an accent of snakeskin with any look adds a lot of flare. Best place to get snakeskin pattered clothing? Revolve & Nasty Gal.

6. Basic Cardigan

From thin cashmere to durable cotton to heavy wool knits, there’s a cardigan out there that will fit your needs no matter what the occasion or season it may be. Right now is the perfect time to stock up on cardigans since fall is just around the corner – pairing some cute jeans, booties, a tube top and a colorful cardigan while holding a pumpkin spice latte is definitely a whole ass vibe. Best place to buy cardigans? Asos.

7. White Sneakers

I personally used to never be a sneakers kind of person growing up but getting a sleek pair of white sneakers can really tie an outfit together. The number of ways you can wear a simple pair of white sneakers is virtually endless – one of my fashion tips is to wear sneakers with a louder or more extra outfit to balance it out to give it a more laid-back chic vibe. Gone are the days where you have to worry about if your outfit is too out-there. Favorite white sneaker brands? Nike Air Force 1 & Gucci Leather Sneakers.

8. Black Bralette

Who says that you should only wear your bra hidden underneath your clothes? When something is as stylish as a bralette, it demands to be seen. There’s so many amazing styles from lace designs to chic to minimal styles, that a bralette is the perfect addition to any outfit. I recently invested in some high-quality bralettes and love styling them under all my mesh tops, wearing them with a blazer or jacket on top, and my most recent favorite, wearing lace bralettes under tank tops. That hint of a bralette that people can see really does add an edge to your outfit. Best place to get bralettes? Zara.

9. Bomber Jacket

Reserved for men only a long time ago, bomber jackets were used as varsity jackets and military wear. But today, hundred of women designs exist and the styles are incredible. With the surfacing of bomber jackets, that stereotypical leather jacket was officially replaced. I like to keep a couple of basic colors in my closet like black, blue and white, but I’ve recently been into floral printed bombers and neon prints so I’ll definitely be investing in some of those for the winter. Best place to get bomber jackets? H&M.

10. Basic Sleeveless V-Neck Bodysuit

QUARANTINE ESSENTIAL. During quarantine I bought a stack of just plain colored v-neck bodysuits in neutral colors to wear with everything and this was probably one of the best purchases I’ve made. I love wearing these casual bodysuits with joggers and jeans for a stroll in the park look OR a loungewear look. They are so comfortable and you best believe that I’m wearing a sports bra underneath. Best place to get basic bodysuits? Boohoo
