It’s been a while since I’ve rounded up a handful of my favorite beauty products, so today we’re focusing on hair! These last couple of months I’ve been experimenting with a lot of different haircare products to understand what works on my hair and what doesn’t. As someone who has long, straight and fine hair, I wanted products that could add a lot of volume and texture to my hair without having to wash it every couple of days. The products listed below have worked really well with my hair and I would recommend it to anyone who might be a beginner when it comes to finding/experimenting with hair products. While some of the products might be on the more expensive side of the spectrum, I can guarantee you that they are worth the money. I’ve also included a lot of in-budget options as well. 2020’s all about self-care, and while most people think self-care means skincare, we also got to give some love to our hair!
1. Drybar Southern Belle Volume-Boosting Powder
I went to my first Drybar experience last year and was blown away by the products they used in my hair. The curls and volume lasted in my hair for 4-5 days since the actual day of the appointment, which never happens when I self-curl. Drybar has SO many different options when it comes to dry shampoo but the one I love for my hair type specifically is the Southern Belle Volume-Boosting Powder. It’s amazing for people with fine hair – all you need is a couple pumps of this in your hair and it makes such a difference. The bottle is super small and travel-sized so I toss it in my purse when I go traveling, especially when I’m in the heat all day.
2. Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray
Do you know that feeling when you tell yourself your hair can last ONE more day so you don’t have to wash it immediately? But then… you realize, it really can’t last that ONE day and now it’s all gross and not presentable. Enter Oribe Texturizing Spray. The spray for the “last day.” This spray is great for adding texture instantly to your hair especially if your hair is feeling a little limp, it’s also great at giving some root lift to dry hair. While it can be a little pricey, I recommend getting the travel-sized version to try out on your hair before buying the larger one.
3. OGX Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco
I live by this $6 Walgreens/Target Argan oil. I always use a pea-sized drop after washing my hair (on wet hair) to give some strength and shine to my hair. It’s also an amazing product to use after you apply heat to your hair (curling/blowdrying/straightening), because it adds an extra layer of shine and gloss.
4. Opalex Hair Perfector Hair Mask
I heard about Opalex when hairstylists named their shampoo product as the best shampoo for color-treated hair, and this “repairing treatment,” which works like a mask, is no exception. I try to apply this every month to my hair. It’s a concentrated treatment that strengthens hair from within, reduces breakage and improves the overall look and feel of the hair, specifically in terms of looking healthy. It works on every hair type, but seriously helps with anyone having frizz problems (damn you humidity!). I would recommend leaving it in your hair for an hour before you wash it out for best results.
5. Dry Bar Triple Sec 3-in-1 Finishing Spray
3 in 1 means it gives you texture, volume and body as well as absorbing excess oil in your hair. Initially when I got this product, I thought it would be like some fancy hairspray but it’s more of a finishing product (hence what it says in the name… I guess I can’t read). Great way to end your hair routine before you go out. It’s definitely on the pricey side but it works amazing as a revival tool, my curls can last for days with this because of the added volume and texture. Goodbye grease, hello finishing spray!
6. Living Proof Full Thickening Cream
For the people that don’t like spray products, this cream is the way to go! It’s super lightweight but gives your hair that 20-30% increase in hair thickness. I use about a quarter-size droplet to give my hair a voluminous boost on days where I wake up and need to look presentable for work via zoom in 2 minutes. Say yes to thicccc hair!
7. Drybar Hot Toddy Heat Protectant Mist
Honestly any heat protectant spray works well in hair before you style it but the reason I live by Drybar is because I’ve had fantastic results with my hair when using their products. Their secret ingredient is artichoke extract which is great for keeping your hair hydrated from the roots to the tip AND fizz-free.
8. John Freida Volume Fine to Full Blow-Out Spray
Finding the perfect blow-out spray has been a struggle because how fine and straight my hair is. Every spray I had been trying made my hair oily or greasy due to the water/oil content in the products. So when I found this spray, it made my hair course before blowdrying which was what I wanted since soft silky hair is generally less voluminous. I love scrunching my hair with this product before I blow-dry it to give me that salon blowout look! Also…. only $8!
Nice read, I just passed this onto a friend who was doing some research on that. And he just bought me lunch because I found it for him smile Therefore let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch!
