My Nighttime Skincare Routine

Skincare is definitely something I’ve started to take more seriously in the last year or so. I’ve been lucky enough to try enough samples from Sephora and from various subscription boxes like Boxycharm to figure out what works on my skin and what doesn’t. I would like to preface by saying I have combination skin – I don’t experience too many breakouts, my skin doesn’t react negatively to new products or weather changes and I have almost no sensitivity, dryness or oiliness. This makes it easier for me to experiment around with beauty products, so if you do have sensitive skin, I highly recommend checking out the ingredients of the products I post below.

Before y’all think my skin is perfect, IT’S NOT. I tend to get a lot of dark spots from when I do breakout and sun spots, because of this I use products high in SPF & lots of Vitamin C serum during the day. But, I’m going to save sharing that information for my morning skin care routine blog!

As for my nighttime skin care routine, some might say it has more steps than a Japanese tea ceremony, which it does, but again, if I can get through 4-5 steps every night, I call it a win. Heck, if I can just wipe my makeup off after a night out, that’s a win. So without further ado, here’s my nighttime skin care routine.

1. Remove Makeup: Neutrogena Makeup Wipes

I’ve been using Neutrogena makeup wipes for years because it removes makeup and also cleanses your skin in one step. It’s definitely more expensive than other makeup wipes, but I’d rather spend more on a quality makeup wipe that removes my waterproof eyeliner versus one that keeps me looking like a raccoon throughout my skincare process.

2. Facial Cleanser: Kylie Skin Foaming Face Wash

FOAM IS A MUST. I love any foaming facial cleanser because it does an amazing job of removing mascara. Gently scrub the foam on your eyelids and all the excess makeup will come off, it’s magical. If you’ve read my blog post on the Kylie Skin review, I did mention this was one of the products in her skin bundle that I would highly recommend.

3. Toner: Mario Badsecu Witch Hazel & Rose Water Toner

The unsung hero of the skin care regimen, toner is essential for balancing skin pH level and prepping your skin for all of the ingredients and formulas that follow. I love Mario Badescu’s Witch Hazel and Rose Water toner, it’s decently priced, works really well, and who doesn’t love a rose scent?  If you’re willing to spend a little more, I’m obsessed with the Kylie Skin Vanilla Milk Toner, it’s like little pearl drops of milk that smells like heaven and makes my skin feel so refreshed. Some days, I’ll just put toner on and call it a night.

4. Moisturizer: Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream

So every year, Sephora gives away these birthday samples to Beauty Insider members during their birthday month, and last year I got this skin care bundle which included a mini-version of the Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream. The second I used this cream, I was in love. It’s the best moisturizer for night time, leaves my skin feeling so soft and healthy – love that it includes peptides (great for people with dry skin). Anyways, I ended up buying the full-size of this and was not disappointed.

5. Serum: TruSkin Vitamin C Serum

The TruSkin Vitamin C serum is my skincare secret ingredient. It’s literally the holy grail. After reading a shit ton of Amazon reviews and researching, I came across this product and it changed my life. I used to have a good amount of blemishes on my face from pimple scars, but they have drastically faded to nothing just 3 weeks after using this product. I use three drops of this every night and it’s helped brighten my skin and clear up most of my sun spots and dark spots. No, I wasn’t paid to write this post, but I can’t stop raving about this product!

6. Eye Cream: Origins Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream

I’m still experimenting with finding the best eye cream, but I’m currently using Origins’s Ginzing Refreshing Eye Cream for getting rid of dark circles, puffiness and dryness under the eye. It’s formulated with coffee beans to rapidly wake up, refresh and restore radiance to tired eyes. Most people use it in their morning skincare routine, but I prefer the night for anything eye cream related.

7. Lip Mask: Bite Beauty Agave+ Nighttime Lip Therapy

One of my close friends (S/O to Sanjana) got me Bite Beauty’s Agave Lip Care Set for my birthday last year and it works wonders. It’s a three piece set of succulent lip care minis with soothing agave nectar that help nourish and hydrate your lips.  I use the Agave+ Nighttime Lip Therapy product before bed every night, and trust, my lips are quite kissable after using this for months 😉

Other Products I Mix into my Skincare Regimen:

Elemis Pro-Collagen Rose Facial Oil: This oil came in one of my Boxycharm boxes, and I’ve been wanting to try an oil to add moisture to my skin after I use serums so I was pretty happy I got this in my subscription box. I didn’t realize how expensive this was on it’s own, but I was instantly hooked. The rose smell is to die for, and this oil leaves my skin feeling so smooth and plumped. I swear I get better sleep after applying a few drops of this.

Whish Firming Sleep Mask: Another product I received in the Fab Fit Fun subscription box, it’s a deliciously rich overnight mask that delivers intense moisturization while firming skin and refining texture. I apply it to my whole face before I sleep then gently wash it off in the morning.

Dr. Brandt’s Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleep Mask: Love switching up my nighttime skincare routine with overnight sleeping masks (similar to the one above). The thing about overnight masks versus a regular mask is that these masks lock in moisture over night, this helps hydrate the skin better and reduce overall redness.

And, that’s it! I hope this blog was helpful to those looking to add new items into their nighttime skincare routine! If you have any suggestions, drop them in the comments below! Would love to hear what everyone else has been using and their secret skincare ingredient. Happy quarantining!
