Singapore me another drank!
Located just off the southern tip of Malaysia resides a melting pot of cultures, Singapore. If I could describe Singapore in 3 words, it would be: spotless, sophisticated and expensive. I mean seriously, did you know gum is banned? When planning this trip, I wanted to spend majority of the time in Bali and keep two days in Singapore, and trust me, you don’t need more than that. We arrived into the Singapore Changi Airport – one of the best rated airports in the world.
Traveler Tip: carve out some time to spend here on your way into the country, not on your way out because you won’t be able to access the amazing lounges and food places.
Where to Stay
There’s so many different locations you can stay in Singapore, notably world-famous luxury hotels Marina Bay Sands and the Raffles Hotel reside in Singapore, but we wanted to stay in the hub of nightlife – Clarke Quay. Clarke Quay is a great neighborhood that is definitely a bit more up-scale and caters to a posh crowd – the best part is, again, the nightlife that aims to attract 20-30 somethings. The other place we were debating to stay at was Orchard Road, Orchard Road is geared towards people who love to shop all things designer, it’s basically a haven for shoppers and luxury travelers.
How To Get Around
Since we were located about halfway between Orchard Road and Marina Bay, we just taxi’d everywhere. I have heard that the Metro system is amazing and a super convenient way to get around, honestly, I just don’t have patience to take public transportation.
What to Do
Gardens By The Bay
Gardens By The Bay is one of the most iconic attractions in Singapore, a definite focal point to the city. You need to carve out a full day for this because it’s so worth it – it’s like a one and done, bucket list kind of thing. The Supertrees look like they are straight out of an alien movie and the cloud forest dome has a breathtaking waterfall, one of the largest indoor one in the world apparently (after the airport one tbh). Honestly, this place is just a perfect example of how nature and technology combine to create one stunning attraction.
BUT, the best part of this attraction is definitely the nighttime show, you MUST stay for it. In the Supertree Grove, they have all the alien trees do a light show and it’s so cool. Have you been to a rave? Think like that but times a million. They change the theme up every few months but ours was The Nutcracker.
Marquee Singapore
On the first night, we went to Marquee Singapore to go clubbing and wow, it is truly Vegas on crack. There was a Ferris wheel and slides inside the club. It wasn’t that packed either, which I was surprised, but it made the dance floor less crowded. The drinks were way overpriced, but hey, it IS Marquee Singapore.
Lau Pa Sat Food Court
One of the greatest food courts ever, Ione of the most popular food courts in the heart of Singapore’s financial district. Literally, a foodie’s paradise. They have everything from roti pratha to biryani to pad Thai to Kathi rolls to chicken satay, you name it, they have it.
Marina Bay Sands
Staying at Marina Bay Sands will cost you a lot, but if you’ve got the money, it’s a great experience. Like I mentioned earlier, we wanted to stay more towards the nightlife but visiting Marina Bay Sands was a must. We spent a portion of our day at the rooftop bar at the top of the hotel called Cé La Vi where we got some great views of the entire city and got to sit alongside the infamous Marina Bay Sands infinity pool.
River Valley Road
In the heart of Clarke Quay is this cute road that has a ton of food and drink spots, cafes and small shops. It’s such a VIBE, Keshu and I spent like 3 hours just walking up this road and exploring because there was just so much to do. We went to a friends themed cafe which was ICONIC, I was crying at all the friend references, so much nostalgia.
There was a cat cafe which is basically a small coffee place with a bunch of rescue cats that you can play with while enjoying your coffee.
We checked out this shot bar called Chupitos which basically had an array of shots that were so unique and delicious that it was so easy to keep wanting more. We took a birthday cake shot, toasted marshmallow shot, slippery nipple shot, M&M shot and so many more.
Honestly our Singapore trip was super short and we were definitely partied out after Bali, but it’s definitely a city you can do in 2-3 days. There was a few things that I didn’t get to do that I do want to check out the next time I pass by it when I’m vacationing in South East Asia. Those things include checking out Arab Street, China Town and Little India and spending a whole day at Sentosa Island. Keep in mind, we just did a whole lot of beaches so Sentosa Island didn’t sound as appealing but got to add it to the list for next time.
We didn’t have an itinerary planned for Singapore since it was a short visit but I am attaching this document my friend made (shoutout to Nandini) with a list of sightseeing things, locals foods and restaurants, bars, and cafes. She lived in Singapore for a while so really do trust her recommendations! Now that I’m all caught up on my travel blogs…..it’s time to book a flight for my next vacay! TILL NEXT TIME! #CatchFlightNotFeelings
